Fiona Pointer Adult Female for sale in Bradenton, Florida

Fiona's story
Fiona is available for foster or adoption. We are a foster-based rescue and always looking for foster families. Fiona is currently fostered in Plantation, FL (Broward County). Fiona is an amazingly sweet girl who was saved from a shelter before she gave birth to six babies. She looks and acts as if she has had pups before. When she came to me, she acted as if she had not been in a home for a very long time, if ever and certainly not on a leash before. She is very timid and has no idea of what her name is and does not respond to Fiona. She will respond when you gently coax her to you for some food, petting or a treat. Once her trust in you builds, she becomes a loving pet who sticks like glue to your side. She is a bit damaged by the hard life she cannot tell us about. There are old scars on her body. She has an extreme fear of men and does not understand being on a leash or rope. She is also afraid of bathrobes, flashlights, sticks and brooms. Many of her little oddities I just ignore and she does fine. This lovely little girl has been a wonderful mama to her pups and even though they are over a month old now, she still cares for them as a mama should. She has watched and joined my pack of dogs and learned their routine. She has found that a couch is a nice thing to nap on. She loves sleeping on her little bed on the floor nearby at night. She has made fast friends with the female dogs in my pack, who have mothered her and shown her how things work. She has even shown the tiniest desire to fetch a toy, but is still unsure. Since she was pregnant and then nursing her puppies, no emphasis has been put on any kind of training or walking on lead. Trust building has been her only work. She will soon have to leave our home and pack for her forever home or new foster home and I think she has relaxed a lot. She will still need a patient family. She prefers women to men and may be wary of men for some time to come. She is learning to trust my husband, but has a way to go yet. She is good with teen girls and probably will be good with well behaved children, as she is very gentle. She has no food aggression, but eats apart from the other dogs just so they won't bother her. She takes treats gently and side by side with the pack with no problem. This poor girl has so much love to give and enjoys some gentle stroking and time laying by your feet quietly. She needs a chance to keep coming out of her shell so she can enjoy a good life. Her bark is a little hound like, but she is mostly quiet. The DNA test on her puppies will be done soon and we will know what her mix is. Fenced or walled yard required. Fiona is accepting applications now. We plan to spay her as soon as possible and get all her other vetting up-to-date.
